Gavin's Blessing

Bobby gave Gavin a wonderful blessing on Sunday, July 5, 2009. We had lots of family and a few close friends at Church with us, and then we all met for lunch afterwards at my parents house. (Thanks mom!!) I am so thankful for Gavin. He is such a sweet, happy baby! (He laughed for the first time on Wed. July 8!! Bobby got him to laugh, of course! He absolutely loves his daddy!) Check out how studly Mr. Brody looks- his hand is in his pocket and he has a huge grin! I love this picture! (My honey looks hot, too!!)

Here are a few pictures from this special day!
(I have more, but these are the ones my mom took... I haven't uploaded mine yet.)

Mommy and Gavin in his "blessing" outfit. (Our Bishop called it a "quasi-suit" haha! Gavin was blessed along with 2 baby girls- so his outfit stood out among the pretty dresses. There aren't many boy blessing outfits to choose from! :) He looked adorable!
Julianne and Bracken, (my SIL and BIL) with Gavin. Julianne is pregnant with Triplets!! When my mom took this picture she said "A picture of one baby on three babies!"
cute kiddies!
Taking a nap after lunch! Bobby and Brody ended up sleeping on the couch for a couple of hours while my Mom, Gavin, and I sat out back on the rocking chairs and talked. It was a fun, relaxing day!

LOTS!

Potty Trained!

I've always worked on potty training Brody, I just never stuck with it. I would let him run around with no diaper for a few hours while we were at home, but then put him in a diaper again. I was reading in a little book that consistency is key. I realized I needed to just do it and get it done with. Here's how I did it:

We stayed home all day for one day last week. I kept him naked (just a shirt on) and took him to the bathroom every 15 minutes or so for the first little bit, then I let more time pass later. Every time he went to the bathroom I did a little song and dance (pee pee on the potty, pee pee on the potty, pee pee, pee pee, pee pee on the potty!) Don't ask how I came up with that- but it worked, and he loved it! He even started to sing and dance while sitting on the toilet :) After he peed, we would wash our hand and then he got to pick a treat out of the jar. He got into quite a routine and would ask for his treat on the way to the bathroom!

After a day of this I put him in some underwear. About 5 minutes later, he peed all over my kitchen floor. He looked up at me, shocked! He thought he was in a diaper, but he had gotten all wet. I told him that he would get wet if he peed in his underwear and that he needed to tell me when he had to go pee pee. (It's actually a good thing he had this accident, because he realized he needed to go in the toilet from that point on). I never got mad at the accidents- I hear you are supposed to just clean them up and move on. It's worked for us.

So, Brody is now in underwear and will tell us when he has to pee. Our only problem is that he won't poo on the toilet. (any suggestions?) I will put him in a pull-up if I know he hasn't gone in a while, just to be safe! He still tells us that he has to pee even with a pull-up on, and they are a lot easier to take off and put back on than diapers! Good job Brody! We are so proud of you!

"Oh! My!...

Gosh!"

That's Brody's new favorite sentence. (Thanks to me) oops!

Chickens

We went to St. George last weekend for my cousins wedding reception. When we got out of the car to go to the party :) we saw some chickens eating flowers out of someones yard. After the reception we told Brody we would go see the chickens (he thought they were pretty cool, so he gave up the trampoline to go see them!). When we got back to the place where we saw the chickens, they were gone. My Dad noticed they were now behind a gate in a little coop. He took Brody over by the fence and showed him the chickens. Me, Bobby, and my Mom were standing on the sidewalk behind them, but couldn't see the chickens. All of a sudden, we heard Brody start to cry like he was scared. My Dad came over to us with Brody in tears and told us that one of the chickens flew off of a little perch and spread its wings right in front of them. Brody got so scared- he had no clue the fence would separate him from the bird, and I would be scared too if I were the size of Brody and had a big chicken spread its wings above me.

Well, throughout the rest of the night, Brody and my Dad kept making bird noises (cock-a-doodle-doo!) Brody thought it was pretty funny, until...

he woke up screaming and crying during the night. I picked him up and brought him into bed with us. It took a few minutes to calm him down and then he leaned over and looked on the side of the bed (where he had been sleeping, on the floor) and said... "chicken gone!"

I felt so bad. He had a nightmare about a chicken. Poor guy! The next morning he kept looking in the same spot and saying "chicken gone" over and over. He even took my mom to his little spot and showed her that the chicken was gone.

I hope he isn't terrified of chickens now. He's still loving his chicken nuggets though!

Gavin - 2 months

I can't believe how big our baby is getting. He is so much fun! We love going thru all of the many different milestones with Gavin... such as: smiling (at 4-5 weeks) and giggling (first time was on his 2 month birthday). He still sleeps most of the day, but when he's awake he is very alert and active... well, as active as a 2 month old should be :) He loves laying under his little hanging toys- he just kicks, moves his arms, and coo's. He absolutely loves the bath...

He. Is. Adorable.
He is a very smiley boy- he will smile at just about anyone! He absolutely loves his daddy- he has the biggest smile as soon as he sees Bobby.
He loves his mommy, too... see!

He loves to look at Brody- I can already tell that they will be best friends. Brody loves his baby brother. He always wants to lay by Gavin, or tells me to put Gavin next to him.

I took him to his 2 month check-up yesterday and here are his stats: (7-1-09)
weight: 11 lbs 15 oz (50th %)
length: 23.25 in. (57th %)
head: 15.4 in. (27th %)
His doctor is very pleased with his growth. He is growing consistently and looking great!! He has a little white dot on the end of his tongue that is a cyst. The Dr says it will just fall off. He got a few of his immunizations as well- he cried. I almost cried. :( I hate it when they have to get shots. I am doing his imm's little slower- I'll have him immunized by 2, but won't get 5 shots all at once. His Dr is fine with me doing that. I love his Dr- he's awesome!!
We love you Gavin, and are so thankful to have you in our family! Happy 2 month birthday!!

Present from Brody

Bobby was in our room with Brody and I heard him say " Go give that to mommy, she'll love it!". I saw Brody come out of my room holding his thumb and finger together (he brings me trash a lot, or cumbs...) he handed me something small and I looked down to find a nice green semi-hard booger! Thank you Brody! (And, daddy was right, I DID love it) :)
